William Rider & Son Ltd./Random House UK published a paperback edition of The Gift: ESP in Great Britain in 2005. British Paperback Edition U.S. Hardcover Edition .....More Praise for The Gift: ESP "The Gift: ESP is the continuation of a classic tradition of case study analysis in psychical research, going back over 100 years. Co-author Dr. Sally Rhine Feather has inherited her passion and analytical skills regarding psychic phenomena from her famous parents, Drs. J. B. and Louisa Rhine who are regarded today as the founders of modern parapsychology. Within her own family, research into the extraordinary phenomena of the human mind goes back over seven decades. And, this book reflects that depth of experience. Co-author Michael Schmicker is a journalist who has specialized in sorting out fact from fiction regarding claims of the paranormal. This book presents dozens of fascinating cases that offer evidence of the role of extrasensory phenomena in everyday life. It speaks directly to the needs of millions of people who are concerned with the personal meaning of such experiences." Jeffrey Mishlove, Ph.D, President of Intuition Network, former host of the national PBS television series Thinking Allowed, and author of The PK Man. (click on underlined names to visit reviewers individual websites) “Premonitions of the future, visions of remote events, and emotions of distant loved ones are not just ancient fables. They’re experienced today by millions of people, and have been verified repeatedly in scientific laboratory tests.” Dean Radin, Ph.D., author of The Conscious Universe: The Scientific Truth of Psychic Phenomena "Readers will be riveted by the amazing, true accounts of ESP found in these pages." Leslie Rule, daughter of true-crime writer Ann Rule, and author of Ghosts Among Us: True Stories of Spirit Encounters and Coast to Coast Ghosts “The argument no longer rages over the existence of ESP, it’s now a fact accepted by over half the population of America! The Gift: ESP clearly points this out, along with several other credible facts about ESP research – views seldom shared by critics. With a degree in Biology, and a Ph.D. in Psychology, Sally Feather has spent over thirty years as a mental health counselor and is well versed in most scientific psychiatric practices, as well as research studies. She knows the differences between dependable and unreliable data, but also understands the value of human testimony. The collection of stories she has carefully assembled for the readers in her book The Gift: ESP is an astounding array of spontaneous psychic experiences that stretch the human definition of reality. The Gift: ESP is a book which should be read by any one interested in understanding the limits of the human mind and consciousness.” Joe McMoneagle, U.S. Army remote viewer in the U.S. Government’s STARGATE “psychic spy” program declassified in 1995; author of The Stargate Chronicles: Memoirs of a Psychic Spy. “As the daughter of the founders of scientific parapsychology, Dr. Sally Feather grew up in a home where ESP was not only discussed but accepted as a fact of life. As the director of the Rhine Research Institute, Dr. Feather and her associates are attempting to understand this puzzling phenomenon, and this book provides some of the pieces that need to be put together. These examples range from the nighttime dream to the scientific laboratory, from the intuitive hunch to the focus required of participants in a rigorous investigation. Dr. Feather and her co-author Michael Schmicker provide readers with suspense, drama, a sense of wonder, and any number of surprises. There is no better introduction to the controversial world of ESP and why it continues to be a fascinating and frustrating enigma.” Stanley Krippner, Ph.D, Professor of Psychology, Saybrook Graduate School and Co-Editor, Varieties of Anomalous Experience “I had the great pleasure of observing Dr. J.B Rhine over several months in 1952. He and Dr. Louisa Rhine created a foundation that have proven that there is an extraordinary psychological ability that is crucial for survival and for innovation. The world of PSI and the use of intuition and synchronicity are increasingly seen by science as the foundation for creativity. The Gift: ESP is indeed a great gift to all of us, reinforcing knowledge gained from our personal experiences.” C. Norman Shealy, MD, Ph.D, author and founding president, American Holistic Medical Association. " The Gift: ESP is truly a gift for the reader. It presents an often controversial but natural ability that everyone possesses in terms of its practical utility. The book motivates us to explore our own psi/ESP talent as a means of seeking help in personal situations and in these turbulent time, for keeping ahead of and avoiding approaching troubling situations that are beyond our control." Dale E. Graff, physicist and former Director of Project STARGATE, the U.S. government’s recently declassified psychic spy program. "The Gift: ESP is a fascinating and readable book, reminding us in this age of rampant materialism and consumerism that our greatest treasure is not things but the human mind - and that mind goes way beyond what reductionistic, "nothing-but" scientism tells us is possible for us. It's good to have these reminders from everyday life and everyday people of how amazing our minds are!" Charles Tart, Ph.D, psychologist and author of the classic transpersonal psychology book Altered States of Consciousness. Bonus: The Gift: ESP reviewer Harville Hendrix Ph.D. speculates on the possible nature of ESP: " I think the issue of ESP is an issue of paradigm. Since the rise of science, scientists and philosophers have been in the process of de-mystifying the world by removing metaphysics as an explanation of phenomena. Prior to the rise of science, metaphysics rather than observation and measurement was used as an explanatory paradigm. In the new empirical paradigm, in which all things material can be studied by the empirical method, nature, including us, is presumed to be available through methods of quantification. Obviously, this means that anything that happens, such as ESP, has to have a material explanation. If that cannot be found, then it does not exist, since only materiality exists. Therefore, consciousness arises out of and is an epiphenomen of the brain. In this paradigm, everything is separated and thus all connections have to be material. If no material connection can be found, then the appearance of connection is illusory. "But, if we change the paradigm, and posit that all things material arise out of the immaterial, then ESP can be viewed as a natural phenomenon. This happens to be a common view, as I understand it, in quantum physics, which posits that all materiality is in fact condensed energy. In string theory, as I understand it, energy is a vibration, but "nothing" is vibrating. Vibration is that out of which all "things" arise, or as some quantum physicists say, out of "nothing." And, there is the two-slit experience in which it seems that the particles "know" something of the wishes of the experimenter. In addition, "non-locality" appears to indicate that effects can occur at a distance simultaneously, ruling out some form of transition or travel. Thus, the conclusion is that all things are so connected that communication occurs simultaneously. If we push this, as some quantum physicists do, and as is fundamental in Vedic philosophy which is 7,000 years old, and posit that the "nothingness" out of which all things arise is "consciousness," then the question of the knowledge of particles of the intentions of the experimenter and non-locality has a posited answer. "Consciousness as such" can be viewed as "information," thus accounting for the knowledge of the particle and non-locality. This makes all things connected because they are all made of the same thing, consciousness, and thus ESP is an example of information transition from the future and across space and between minds." |
